Which Is the Legitimate Government of Kosova?
|
Around 41 percent of interviewed persons
recognise the UN Civil Administration as the legitimate
government of people of Kosova, around 29 percent are for
the Provisional Government of Hashim Thaçi, and ca.
8 percent recognise the Government of Bujar Bukoshi as the
current legitimate government.
76 percent of interviewed persons think that the best option
for solving the Mitrovica problem is driving the Serbs out
of Mitrovica.
About the survey
Since the end of the crisis in Kosova,
deployment of the international peacekeeping forces commanded
by NATO and establishment of UN Civil Administration, normal
life seems like starting as from the beginning. Three months
afterwards, consequently, many issues are still pending
and awaiting solution.
New reality created in the post-war period has caused ambiguities
and dilemmas for the citizens of Kosova. Among them is also
the existence of three "governments" on Kosova:
the Provisional Government of Hashim Thaçi, the Government
of Bujar Bukoshi, and the UN Civil Administration.
One of the purposes of this survey was to shed some light
on what Kosovan Albanians think of the recently established
situation.
Methodology
This survey was carried out between
7-16 September 1999 in six towns of Kosova: Prishtina, Prizren,
Gjakova, Mitrovica, Peja and Gjilan.
The sample consisted of 1000 respondents,
Albanian inhabitants aged 18 years plus, and was run in
urban areas only, divided into 100 sampling points throughout
above-specified six towns.
The fieldwork was conducted with 28
interviewers and 6 supervisors (one supervisor per town),
under supervision of the management team from local branch
office.
The outfit of professionals from the Prishtina branch office
of BBSS Gallup International conducted this poll.
