Features of the Current Household's Profile
| BBSS Gallup International, Branch Office
Prishtina, conducted in February this year a survey of public
opinion in Kosova. The survey was conducted with a representative
for the Albanian citizens sample of 1000 adult respondents,
while the selection procedure was based on the stratified random
principles. It should be noted, however, that presented findings,
come as result from questions which do not measure respondents'
personal opinions, views or evaluations, but rather deal with
the factual "state" of their household's profile. |
|
Processes, which
took place in the Kosovar society last year, affected directly
the life within the households, quite often bringing about
sensible changes in the household's membership, its permanent
dwelling, main field of economic activity, properties and
well-being, occupation of different members, their life style,
etc.
In the time being, the phenomena
of changing the settlement and the evident migration of rural
population into urban areas respectively rendered overall
structure of the Kosova population quite fragile and unsettled.
This should be underscored especially as the following results
are cross-tabulated with the type of residence (rural-urban).
As regards your family, could you tell
me please
a) do you posses an arable land?
b) (if YES) did you till the land last autumn?
c) do you have family business other than farming?
d) is there any pregnant woman currently in the household?
e) is there any seriously ill or handicapped person among
members of the household?
f) is there any member(s) of the family living outside Kosova?
As far as we are dealing with questions
on actual data about certain matters regarding households,
and not with personal opinions of respondents, findings will
be presented with geographical distribution of the sample
based on the type of residence (rural-urban), in order to
highlight the differences between rural and urban households.
|
 |
| Answers to the question does your family
have an arable land, show that 52.6% of respondents posses an
arable land, and 46.0% do not. 1.4% of the respondents don't
know or refuse to give an answer. From the households that say
that they have an arable land, 59.5% are in rural areas, and
40.5% in urban areas. From those that do not possess an arable
land, 15.4% are rural households and 84.6% urban. |
| In question did you till the land last autumn
(for those who answer that they possess an arable land), 11.8%
say that they had tilled the land last autumn, 58.2% answer
with "No", while 30% of respondents refuse to give
an answer or don't know. Respondents who had tended the land
last autumn, are 70.9% from rural and 29.1% from urban settlements.
And from those that had not planted the land, 35.0% are from
rural settlements and 65.0% from urban ones. |
| In the third question does your family have
any family business other than farming, 28.0% say that their
families have a family business and 68.1% do not have one; 3.9%
refuse or don't know. If we look through the cross tabulations
with the type of settlement, we see that from households that
possess a family business other than farming, 34.3% are from
rural settlements and 65.7% from urban ones. |
| In the question is there any pregnant woman
in your family, 20.3% of the interviewed answer with "Yes"
and 76.7% answer with "No". If this is viewed again
within the rural-urban distribution, we see that from the families
that have a pregnant woman, 45.3% live in rural areas, and 54.7%
in urban areas . |
|
Answers to the
question do you have an ill or handicapped person in your
family, show that 15.7% of interviewed have such a person
in their family while 82.4% have been spared of such grave
concern. Out of the positive responses, 44.6% have been recorded
in rural settlements and 55.4% in urban ones.
Question do
you have any member of you family living outside of Kosova,
reveals that at the time of the survey 43.6% of respondents
ascertain having someone of the family abroad, 55.3% answer
with No, while 1.1% of respondents don't know or refuse to
give an answer. From those who have family members living
outside Kosova, 45.4% are from rural areas and 54.6% from
urban areas.
